Pros

  • Burns all kinds of CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs.
  • Creates and burns disc image files in ISO and other formats.
  • Creates bootable discs and ISO image files.
  • Burns your data across multiple blank discs

Cons

  • Doesn't offer a direct disc-to-disc copy tool

BurnAware Free is the most basic one of the BurnAware disc-burning utilities family. This program is designed to cover the burning needs of home and non-professional users, however, it allows you to create multiple types of CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs. It also includes some helpful complementary tools that make it one of the best utilities of its type you can find for free.

The program's user interface remains virtually unchanged from its previous versions. It basically consists of a set of 14 shortcuts, one for each offered tool or function. They, in turn, are grouped into 4 categories - Data, Multimedia, Disc Images and Utilities. In addition, every tool runs on its own separate window, which allows you to configure all the required parameters depending on the type of compilation you are creating.

With BurnAware Free you can create data CDs, DVDs and Blu-ray discs, audio/MP3 CDs, Video DVDs, and BDMV/AVCHD DVDs or Blu-ray discs. Besides, with the "Disc Images" utilities you can easily create ISO or BIN image files from your burned discs, ISO image files directly from your filesystem and burn image files in ISO, BIN, CUE, IMG, NRG and DMG formats into blank discs. Furthermore, if you are an advanced user you can benefit from tools that allow you to create bootable discs and ISO image files, and from the "Span Disc" tool, that allows you to burn your data across multiple blank discs.

As you can see, BurnAware Free is a comprehensive set of disc-burning tools that are suitable both for novice and advanced users. The only feature I consider absent in BurnAware Free is a direct disc-to-disc copy tool, which is a basic task all PC users will eventually require ever.
